'Life does not suddenly become easy when you become a Christian. Problems don't always disappear (although I admit that sometimes they can). Life does not treat Christians any different than anyone else - and why should it, or this could be seen as some kind of reward for making that decision. God does not tempt us with supermarket tactics of 'buy one, get one free'.
He invites us to belong to the world and be His presence within it, and that can sometimes be difficult depending on our own circumstances. That's why we need to be sure of our faith and indeed sure of the God who we serve, and that's why those who are considering this step need to be sure of what they're getting into!
Don't get me wrong, the Christian life is one full of blessings day by day, and one that is certainly full of surprises - we serve a God who has a sense of humour. But it's also a life that sometimes can call upon every scrap of endurance, patience and love that we have within us. That's the challenge. Are you up to that?'
